Everything You Need To Market Your Company, From Social Networking Accounts to Plastic Bags
Anyone will tell you that marketing is a very powerful tool, especially when used well. It's something every business should pay close attention to, and while they don't require an awful lot of effort, it shouldn't be neglected.
So, onto Step 1: Logo-adorned plastic bags.
Plastic bags, you ask? Yes, plastic bags. Too many shops give their customers blank plastic bags — what's the point? Step 2: Using the Internet to your advantage as much as possible.
Ah, the Internet. Is there anything it can't do? Well, yes, there are many, including making a perfect grilled cheese sandwich, but that's beside the point. The Internet can do just about anything when it comes to marketing. Between all the main social networking sites out there — Facebook, Twitter, FourSquare and Yelp — there won't be a soul on earth (or at least in you city) who doesn't know about your business.
Let's start with Facebook. Facebook has over 600 million users (that's roughly 10% of the world population) and is basically the Zeus of social networking sites. No matter what kind of business you have — a retail store, a restaurant, a venue, a salon — you should have a Facebook page set up for it, and one that people can see the details for even if they're not signed in. Facebook might be super popular, but you'll always run into people who don't have an account.
Then, there's Twitter. Twitter has only 200 million users, but it's growing daily in popularity, and is another site you should sign your business up for no matter what it specializes in. You can only post 140 characters at a time, which means your followers will get the info. you want them to in short bursts — the way the Internet intended.
Finally, there are FourSquare and Yelp. They're not quite as popular as Facebook and Twitter, only in that they don't have as many users. (Way more people use Yelp than are signed up for it.) Regardless, you should absolutely utilize both of them, especially if your business has an actual storefront people can visit. They'll "check in" to your business on FourSquare, where they can also write short messages, and write reviews about their experiences on Yelp.
So, there you have it — a few easy ways to make your business more successful. Get a move on those logo-adorned plastic bags and Facebook, Twitter, FourSquare and Yelp accounts!
