BQ-P6 Padding, Tape & Perfect Binding Machine Review
The BQ-P6 from Standard is an exceptional desktop document binding system. It offers perfect binding, padding and tape binding all on one convenient unit – this is the only machine of its kind! Before we talk more about this innovative machine, lets talk about the three kinds of binds that it can create.
Perfect Binding is also sometimes referred to as soft cover binding and is similar to paper back novel. Unlike some binding processes that require sewing the pages into the spine of the book, however; Perfect Binding requires no sewing and instead uses a strong adhesive to hold the pages in place to a soft cover. When finished, Perfect Binding creates a clean look with a flat spine. Sometimes referred to as case binding, the use of Perfect Binding also lends itself to smaller publishing concerns, such as desktop publishing and self publishing in the publish on demand businesses. Glues used in this binding technique are also easy to work with, making the task of creating a professional look possible even by people with little binding experience. Perfect Binding is utilized for many types of soft-cover type books, manuals, corporate reports, brochures, and other simple collections of documents.
Thermal Tape binding offers a professional look by applying a high quality linen cloth binding strip to the spine of a set of documents. Tape Binding is perfect for mailers because they are flat, and do not have a bulky spine. Thermal Tape Binding creates a quick & permanent bind that allows your books to lay flat.
Padding binds loose pieces of paper with adhesive to create an attractive pad of paper. Stacks of paper are clamped into place and padding adhesive or glue is applied to the spine. Once the bind is dry, the stack of paper is removed and can be cut down to size. Padding is widely used by schools, churches, real estate offices, binderies, and virtually anyone else in the binding industry.
Now that we have an understanding of the different binding methods that the BQ-P6 offers, we can dive deeper into the machine to help you further determine if it is the right choice for you.
The PQ-P6 is fairly easy to operate, highly productive, and uniquely versatile. With just the push of a button you can bind as little as 2 and as many as 250 sheets (about 1" thick) at a cost of just pennies per bind. This machine has been designed for the short-run on-demand market, and is an ideal binding machine for today's quick printers, in-plants, offices, churches, schools, and more.
The BQ-P6 has a cycle speed of up to 140 books per hour, with the average operator producing between 80 and 120. Simply place your perfect binding cover stock or tape onto the machine and the adhesive application and spine clamping are automatically activated, binding your book in just seconds. This easy-operation produces a strong and square bind every time. Making it even easier for the user, the BQ-P6 control panel walks the user through the simple binding procedure, and it only takes about thirteen minutes to warm up. With the BQP6 you can bind books as small as 2" W x 3.25" H and as large as 12.4" W x 8.7" H. Thermal binding tapes are available in 11" L x 1.26" W. Thermostatically controlled, this perfect binding machine indicates readiness to bind with a ready light and audible tone. The type of bind is chosen with the push of a button, and a sequence of four indicators directs the user through the binding process. The BQ-P6 is easy to use and more productive than comb or wire binding operations which require punching and assembly.
One of the best things about perfect binding is that you have the ability to completely customize your book covers. You choose your cover stock, and you can custom-print these covers in-house (depending on paper type/printers used). A wide variety of cover stocks for perfect binding and tape binding applications can be used to offer the unique strength and flexibility of the BQ-P6 binding adhesive.
