Advertise Your Own Brand On The Golf Course
For all of the golfers out there, how many of you work for Taylormade, Titleist, Cleveland, Calloway, or Nike? I would imagine that only a very tiny percentage of you do so. Yet, most of us (myself included), actually pay these companies sizeable amounts of money to advertise their brands for them as we spend 4 hours (or significantly more in some cases) on the golf course. Between the expensive golf bags, hats, shirts, and towels that we purchase, we are a walking billboards for these companies, and we paid them for that right!
With the marketing and business degrees that many golfers probably possess, how many of us have ever stopped to wonder how that makes any sense. Why not take the money that you spent on that $250 Taylormade cart bag, and buy a bag or shirt that advertises YOUR brand instead. Use a bag with your logo embroidered on it to start a conversation with your playing partners about the company that you own or sell for. It's a natural segue into your "elevator pitch".
Let's take that golf bag with your company's logo on it and look at it from an advertising point of view. Those in the advertising world are famliar with the term "impressions", or the number of times your advertisement or brand message is viewed by a potential customer. Between leaving it at the bag drop and driving around the course with it, the bag with your logo on it could receive easily 20-30 impressions within 4-5 hours. If you play several times a month, a custom golf bag that costs about $400 will pay for itself several times over with just the impressions you'll get with it during the life of the bag.
There are a number of places on the web where you can purchase a custom golf bag, and you can find them if you do a Google search. Prices range from $150 for a basic stand bag with embroidery on it up to close to $1,000 for a high-end custom made leather golf bag. Even though the prices might be a little higher than an off the shelf golf bag, now you've become a walking billboard for your OWN company, and better yet, the golf bag becomes a tax deductible business expense.
So the next time you feel the urge to go out and buy the latest Titleist bag, stop yourself and ask "Does this get me the best ROI for my business?". Chances are, the answer is no.
